Euphoria Chocolate Company, based in Eugene, Oregon, has a cult following in Oregon's South Willamette Valley. Ex-residents of the area have been known to go to extraordinary lengths to obtain their decadent truffles and chocolates.
Now we can ship their sinful delights to you! I had long despaired that I would never find a chocolate truffle equivalent to the ethereal offerings of a little shop in Berkeley, CA called Cocolat. Sadly now gone, Cocolat, in the late 70's, even before the foodie craze started by Chez Panise and Alice Waters, made extraordinary chocolates.
I used to stand in line with fellow fanatics on Saturday mornings outside the store, waiting for them to open, so we could grab their hand crafted goodies. Sadly, they are long gone, but when I moved to Oregon, I discovered that someone was following in their footsteps, offering a fresh, handcrafted truffle with rich ganache (a mix of equal part chocolate and fresh heavy cream) as the central ingredient.
The secret to Euphoria's quality, we think, is the fact that their products are made fresh daily, and are made with fresh heavy cream, very high quality couverture chocolate, fresh nuts and the best liqueurs.
The truffles must be kept refrigerated and have a 2 week shelf life in the fridge (as though anyone can go that long without gobbling them down). Because they must be shipped via air, purchasing them is not cheap. But when you want the best, Euphoria is the way to go! -JY " Hedonistic
Pleasures- Every year, Euphoria Chocolate Company in Eugene, OR, blends about 200,000
pounds of chocolate with some of the freshest local ingredients, to make
rich, mouth-watering confections that can send a chocoholic to heaven
and back. Their signature product, the chocolate truffle,
comes in nearly a dozen flavors, depending on the time of the year,
and adds credence to the
saying, "I never met a chocolate truffle I didn't like." Euphoria owner Bob Bury
says his company gears up for each year their biggest day -- Valentines. (The
month of December is their busiest month of the year). "We make very upscale chocolates that are so creamy, they have
to be refrigerated," Bury said. "We use the freshest ingredients
we can find locally-fresh cream, hazelnuts, Oregon mint and Oregon wine,
along with the finest quality chocolate." If a recent sampling of Euphoria's hazelnut truffle is indicative of
their chocolates, it was the most sensual, guilty pleasure I've experienced
in some time. Given the recent scientific evidence that chocolate may
be good for you because of its antioxidants, I also felt contented after
just one bite.
