Some of the best gourmet fudge in the country
comes from a group of Brigittine monks who make their fudge and chocolates
at a small monastery in the pastoral setting of Amity, Oregon, about
forty-five miles southwest of Portland. Founded in 1370 and dedicated to a life of prayer
and work, the Brigittine Monks are completely self supporting. Brigittine
Monks Gourmet Confections began in 1982 as a way for the monastery
to offset some of its expenses, but the business has grown so steadily
each year that the chocolate sales have now become the order's sole
source of income. . . . Five fudge flavors and ten hand-dipped truffle
varieties are making believers out of chocolate lovers from coast to
coast. Delicious fudge and truffles, handmade by the Briggitine Monks
in Amity, in the heart of the Oregon wine country. These are generous
one pound boxes freshly made.
